Before and Beside

by Jayme Hull

No one likes to be rejected. Does the fear of rejection hold you back from investing in others? Do you need to remind yourself that your worth is not depending on what others think or say but on the fact that Jesus accepts you? Do you really trust God’s unfailing love for you? Are you able to memorize this verse and hold to its truth?

Psalm 13:5
“I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.”

I am so encouraged by this short statement by June Hunt:
Though I’ve been hurt, I will not harbor hate;
Though betrayed, I will still live with love;
Though my heart aches, I will hold onto hope;
Though I’m afraid, I will face life with faith.

So many women are too afraid of being rejected with mentoring one-on-one and therefore decline in getting involved with mentoring younger women. God is not a God of fear. The Scriptures encourage us to invest and pour our lives into each other for the sake of the Kingdom.

No matter what fear you are facing, God will supply the power and strength you need to be an overcomer.

2 Timothy 1:7
“God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

As you read the following verses and spend time in prayer allow the Holy Spirit to speak to you and guide you to the next step in mentoring. Look for where you can see the Lord is already at work and join Him there.

1 John 4:18
“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear…”

Psalm 139:23-2
“Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

Deuteronomy. 31:8
“The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you now forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

God goes before us and will be with us. God goes before us on every mentoring appointment and commitment. With God we do not need to be fearful or discouraged.

God goes before and beside us. We are never alone!

I want to encourage you to spend time on your knees praying for God to give you the courage to obey His call. He will supply your needs. He will guide you as you mentor another woman in Christ. Trust and obey the Lord’s calling on your life. Invest in other women and teach the good news and wisdom of the Lord. Everything begins with an obedient heart. When you hand God your healed heart He will supply the woman divinely selected for the mentoring moment.
Seize the moment and follow Christ into mentoring another woman. God promises He will help you help her grow in her relationship with Him.
